Birch Bias Tape Maker - 1" (25mm) Making bias tape using a bias tape maker is something that is easy to do, and bias tape has a variety of uses in sewing and quilting projects.

The 1 inch bias maker allows you to make 1/2 inch double bias whichhas many applications

Plus, being able to create your own bias tape in the fabric of your choice allows you to perfectly match colours and not be limited by the availability of commercially pre-made bias tapes.

Along with the bias tape maker you will need a couple of other readily available supplies to create your bias tape. You will need an iron, some spray starch and an awl or toothpick. Also, pre-cut your fabric strips to a width double that of your finished bias tape. (For example, if you are using the 1” bias tape maker you will need to pre-cut your strips of fabric to 2” wide.)

One inch single fold bias tape can be folded to make half inch double fold bias tape the most useful width tape. Half inch double binding made from one inch binding was used on the binding and shouder ties on the dress in the second image.

Spray starch is handy as it stabilses the fabric while making the bias strip.
